Speech and language Teaching Assistant

DescriptionFive Education is supporting a primary school in Bristol and we are looking for a Teaching Assistant to support a child with a speech and language delay
The student is in year one and is working at EYFS level struggling with communication
Some knowledge of Makaton and PECS [Picture exchange communication] is essential for this role as the pupil often uses signs to communicate
The pupil sometimes struggles to engage in classroom activities and needs a clear structure throughout the day.
The school-based in Bristol has an inclusive ethos and requires a confident and experienced individual to support the children on a one-to-one basis
This role is temporary at the moment but may have the potential to become long-term if you get along well.
Responsibilities and duties:
Supporting the student in classroom activities
Assisting the student at lunchtime
Working 1:1
Assisting the student with social and emotional development, including appropriate responses and building relationships
Implementing behaviour management tools in line with the school's policy
Working on speech and language techniques to help improve student's language
Essential Criteria:
At least 6 months experience of working with children with SEMH/SEND
Basic Makaton knowledge and use of visuals/now and next cards
A flexible and resourceful approach
Patient and able to relate to the student
You will be able to demonstrate strong behaviour management skills
Have a right to work in the UK [A Valid Visa]
Two recent child based references and relevant DBS/ Police checks
Access to bicycle, car, or near main bus routes.
Able to work 8.30-3.30, 4-5 days per week term time only
