Data Protection Officer

✓We have created this new role of Group Data Protection Officer to help us in the next stage of our development and delivery of ambitious plans.
✓We are looking for a highly skilled professional who will operate across our group to ensure that we continue to uphold the highest standards in relation to data management and protection. The ideal candidate will be solution focussed, offer advice with confidence, have a meticulous attention to details, whilst ensuring that business needs are met.

✓ The Group Data Protection Officer is a challenging and exciting cross-business function which demands a versatile and independent attitude
✓At times it will be administrative, servicing deletion or subject access requests with care but it will also be mentally challenging and require a project-focused approach to ensuring the group is only storing the data it needs for as long as it needs to.
✓You will work closely with IT, Marketing, Finance, Safeguarding, HR and other departments across the group and therefore gain a holistic understanding of how each of the businesses work and what data we require in order to function.
✓This is a full-time permanent role working within close proximity of one of our key Hub locations in Newcastle, Sheffield or Central London.
✓Objectives of this role:
✓Proactive approach to leading and advising staff across the Group on all aspects of data management and protection
✓Maintain and update data protection, security and privacy policy documents and procedures for the Group
✓First responder for data breaches and related data incidents across the Group, liaising with external advisers and internal processors where required
✓Service deletion and Data Subject Access Requests [DSARs]
✓Keep abreast of emerging data protection legislation affecting the regions in which we trade
✓Working closely with IT, Marketing, Finance, Safeguarding and HR to lead on projects ensuring compliance with GDPR and agreed data retention schedules across the business
✓Attend and present at meetings with the Senior Leadership team to provide updates and KPIs to ensure the Group remains on track with Data Protection
✓Deliver [or oversee delivery of] GDPR training [in some cases bespoke to the business team] to all new starters
✓Monitor and report on staff attendance of Cyber Security Training
✓Branch and site visits – carry out desk audits for compliance with GDPR and ad-hoc training to branch staff around proper storage, retention, sharing and deletion of all data
✓Contract assessments, DPIAs, DSAs, NDAs for new projects, third parties, tenders etc
✓Consent/Consent withdrawal forms
✓Maintaining the RoPA
✓Dealing with internal Data Protection queries from around the business, working with solicitors as necessary
✓ICO registration
✓Essential skills and qualifications:
✓Previous experience in a Data Protection role
✓Previous experience and knowledge of Safer Recruitment
✓Experience working with a tech start-up
✓Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate complex information and technical detail to a wide range of stakeholders
✓Meticulous attention to detail
✓Highly competent computer skills
✓Experience of Salesforce [or other market-leading cloud CRM]
✓A firm understanding of where data is typically stored in modern systems [Outlook, Teams, CRMs, SharePoint]
✓Project management experience
✓Preferred skills and qualifications:
✓Previous experience or education in legal, compliance, HR, or data management
✓A relevant qualification
