Full Time [36 hours per week] Shifts between 08:00am to 20:00pm
Role Purpose:
The Libraries Officer post acts as the first point of contact for library customers and facilitates their effective use of the library service
To supervise the operation of the library on a daily basis and to take charge when required and provide a high level of customer satisfaction for the library service.
Responsibilities:
To act as first point of contact for library customers, develop high quality customer service standards and to serve and assist customers in a friendly and efficient manner, referring on where appropriate.
To take responsibility for ensuring that contractors adhere to policies and procedures whilst in the library.
To take the lead on project based work including outreach and development and lead on an area of responsibility commensurate with the new Libres strategy, for example lead working groups and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
To organise staff deployment, supervise weekend and relief staff and maintain high levels of teamwork.
To supervise the operation of the library on a daily basis and to take charge when required and provide a high level of customer satisfaction for the library service.
To be responsible for ensuring that the library is opened and closed correctly and that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
To solve customer enquiries and disputes in an efficient manner retaining high customer satisfaction levels for the service.
To join new customers, making a positive first impression and ensuring that internal needs and expectations are met.
To champion the use of self service technology and to encourage customers to use this facility wherever possible.
To demonstrate a general knowledge of stock and online resources and to help customers in their use.
To ensure that the library environment is welcoming, vibrant and a safe place to visit.
In conjunction with the Area libraries Manager, to handle cash transactions and maintain cash records.
To take responsibility for promoting services available in the library including planning, arranging and delivering events, activities, story times, reading groups, class visits and promotions.
To carry out administrative tasks such as reservations, discards, inventories, stock servicing and raising purchase orders.
To carry out routine library duties such as shelving and making sure the library is clean and tidy.
To take personal responsibility for Health & Safety, to include acting as a fire Marshall, keeping own workspace safe and highlight issues of concern to the Libraries Area Manager.
To take responsibility for reporting any accidents to incidents to the area libraries manager and completing with appropriate support necessary documentation.
To provide ICT Support, coaching and guidance to customers in basic computer usage and use of common Microsoft packages.
To take responsibility to the reporting of IT and self-issue faults.
To work flexibly and to undertake any additional task commensurate with the grade of the post.
To module attitudes and behaviours as set out in the code of conduct and work within our client’s frameworks especially HR, financial standards, equalities and data protection.
To assist with induction and training, including familiarisation sessions for staff from other teams.
Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training/development activities including the council’s wider outcomes and performance schemes.
Available to work evenings and weekends as required
