About the Trust
Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only three dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services
We provide a full range of services for residents of Sheffield and South Yorkshire as well as specialised services for patients from across the United Kingdom.
What you’ll be responsible for:
* Act as a focal point for the clinical team
Provide a friendly and professional service, deal with enquiries from a multitude of sources following Trust policies and standard operating procedures
Liaise with GP’s, other hospitals, patients, internal medical/non-medical staff and medical/non-medical external staff by a variety of means i.e
face to face/phone/e-mail/letter/faxes on a daily basis.
* Ensure all duties are undertaken in line with standard operating procedures and to enable the achievement of Trust and service specific key performance indicators.
* Frequently receive and respond appropriately to telephone and personal enquiries from patients, relatives, GP’s, other consultants and external bodies, referring enquiries to the consultants/clinical teams where necessary
This will require analysis of queries/issues, making judgements about how to deal with them and escalating as appropriate.
* Accurately record all paper/computerised patient records, updating and amending information in a timely manner and within standard operating procedures.
The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above
You’ll learn the following whilst working at the trust:
* An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
* Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
* A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
You’ll have the following skills/experience:
* Excellent communication skills- both verbal and written.
* Microsoft office skills- Outlook, Word, and Excel.
* Previous experience of audio typing in a secretarial role.
* RSA II / OCR typing or equivalent touch-typing experience.
* Knowledge of medical terminology.
