Mortgage Underwriting Team Leader

DescriptionDue to our continued growth and success, we now require an additional Team leader within our Mortgage Underwriting department
We are an award winning mortgage buy to let company who can offer a salary up to £46k depending on experience
The main function of the Underwriting Team leader will be to manage an underwriting team daily, to ensure staff are trained and competent to deliver professional, efficient and high standards of customer service to customers, intermediaries, valuers and solicitors.
The opportunity is based in Fleet working the hours of 9am – 5pm with 2 days WFH after the successful completion of the 3 month probationary period
You will receive a salary of up to £45k dependant on experience, plus 25 days holiday, non-contributory pension, private healthcare, life assurance, income protection and discretionary annual bonus.
Working alongside 2 team leaders and in a team of 30 underwriters, you would directly manage up to 8 underwriters and report to the Pre-Offer Operations Manager
You will ensure you maintain good working relationships with your team and fellow colleagues ensuring responsibility for development, training and recruitment while managing your own caseload with a mandate of up to£500k.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work to agreed objectives, service standards, and deliverables
• Ensure relevant documentation and information received is checked for adherence to policy and criteria
• Ensure both self and team adhere to internal/external compliance, credit review and audit requirements
• Ensure both self and team apply all aspects of the desired consumer outcomes of Treating the Customer Fairly [TCF]
• Take responsibility for own learning and development and demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development
• Oversee and act as a referral point for own team on more complex cases
• Plan, organise and control workload within the team to ensure achievement of service standards
• Motivate the team to maintain high morale, low absenteeism and turnover
• Coach and support team members and colleagues to help them achieve their objectives and to build a high-quality team
• Monitor and manage team performance and discuss underlying trends with Pre-Offer Management team
• Lead, coach and develop team to manage performance by conducting and document monthly performance reviews
• Monitor individual’s performance and ensure quality audits are carried out and provide feedback and take appropriate action
• Be responsible for recruitment and selection of own team members based on headcount and required skill sets
• Actively develop staff and ensure the required training and development is identified and prioritised to meet business needs
• As a line manager evaluate and challenge team performance and business practices against industry best practice
• Any other associated duties and responsibilities and carry out task as required by Management
To be successful for the Underwriting Team Leader you will have proven technical knowledge gained from working for a mortgage originator and ideally be CEMAP qualified
You will have held a previous mandate and have solid underwriting experience, with experience in the buy to let area preferred
Along with the industry sector experience you will have proven ability and experience of mentoring/coaching new team members and working at a team leader level.
