Development Designer
Description✓Outline of Role:
✓In this role you should show good technical ability and be able to produce drawings for client approval and for manufacturing purposes
✓Another part of this role is to carry out site surveys when required to complement our busy team.
✓* Take briefs from the Creative team and bring concepts to life, developing them in SolidWorks or Inventor for prototype and manufacture
✓* Sketch initial production ideas in order to ascertain costs
✓* Produce quotation specification documents
✓* Identify the suitability and availability of materials
✓* Produce detailed, final drawings using SolidWorks or Inventor to produce design specifications, including parts lists and assembly instructions
✓* Test new design concepts via computerised modelling or physical hands-on prototyping
✓* Problem-solve and find solutions to sometimes complex mechanical problems
✓* Strong value-engineering mind-set is a must
✓* Exceptional knowledge of materials, processes and market requirements
✓* Arrange meetings and liaise with Project Management & Suppliers to discuss and negotiate appropriate production processes, costs and commercial issues
✓* Form pro-active relationships with suppliers in our metal fabrication and joinery supply chains both in the UK and Overseas.
✓* Occasionally travel to suppliers’ production facilities to evaluate prototypes and feasibility of production
✓Requirements to be successful in the role:
✓A positive, enthusiastic and resourceful self-starter, capable of taking ownership of projects and working as part of a group
✓You will have a good understanding of form and function, be a creative thinker with an eye for detail and have strong commercial awareness.
✓Tenacity and problem-solving skills are a distinct advantage given the high level of bespoke work and complex installations undertaken in the division.
✓* Must be experienced in the use of SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor and Vault software.
✓* Be able to show an ability to work in a busy office environment and have a proven track record in meeting deadlines.
✓* A positive, enthusiastic and hardworking attitude.
