Description✓This is a special opportunity to work at one of England’s most important lowland wet grassland sites
✓The Nene Washes is managed primarily for breeding waders which involves grazing and mowing to maintain a short and varied sward
✓The reserve is designated for its important range of breeding and wintering birds including black-tailed godwit, snipe, lapwing, common crane and wigeon.

✓Salary: £25,723.00 - £27,614.00 Per Annum

✓This is a fixed-term full-time role for 37.5 hours per week for 6 months starting in May 2023
✓The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
✓What's the role about?
✓The purpose of the post is to assist with the day-to-day implementation of the management plan for the reserve – with a focus on tractor work, livestock handling and estate maintenance
✓Your main duties will include undertaking extensive grass topping through summer, maintaining machinery to ensure it is operating safely and efficiently and helping survey key bird species and habitats.
✓You will be working as part of a 4-person team managing the 800-hectare RSPB Nene Washes Nature Reserve
✓You will also be expected to work alone frequently in a remote, physical environment and be able to use your own initiative.
✓What we need from you:
✓Essential knowledge, skills and experience:
✓* Maintenance and use of machinery, tools and equipment [eg tractors, toppers].
✓* Experience of tractor driving
✓* Basic knowledge of lowland wet grassland ecology.
✓* Practical land management experience and delivering estate management works.
✓* Problem solving and coming up with well thought through practical solutions.
✓* Working unsupervised for extended periods.
✓* Manage oneself to prioritise and work to an agreed plan.
✓* Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, and Outlook
✓Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience:
✓* Lantra or equivalent qualification in tractor driving, brushcutter and 4x4 off road driving
✓* Experience of working around cattle.
✓* Knowledge of wildlife surveying and recording
