The Role:
Cover Supervisors are used as general cover for lessons across the school when teachers are off or have periods for planning
The role allows you to gain experience working in front of the class without the pressure and expertise needed to plan and teach a lesson
The work for the lesson has been planned precisely by the class teacher for a cover supervisor to deliver and supervise
As a Cover Supervisor, your main objective is to oversee the smooth running of all lessons during the school day including:
Supervising the cover work set by the absent teacher
Ensuring the children have the required resources and knowledge to complete the work set by the teacher
Managing the behaviour of pupils during the lesson to ensure all work is completed to a high standard
Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies
Collecting completed work after lesson and returning it to the appropriate teacher/department.Working as a cover supervisor offers invaluable experience leading the class and allowing you to develop your behaviour management skills
These skills are transferable to working within any school as a cover supervisor or support staff and will equip you with valuable skills needed when commencing the journey to become a teacher!
What the training includes:
Learn how to establish fair, trusting and supportive and constructive relationships with young people
How to communicate effectively in engaging with young people's learning
How to promote good behaviour and develop some strategies for managing young people's behaviour
To understand how teachers take practical account of diversity and promote equality and inclusion in their teaching
To understand what safeguarding is, how to deal with safeguarding issues and the promotion of wellbeing of young people
