Here at talentED recruiters, we are seeking graduate teaching assistants for special needs schools, catering to a broad range of special needs for ages 4 to 19
We'll assist in matching you up to the perfect school and the ideal role based on the direction you would like to take your career and where your degree can best be utilised.
Often, our schools will offer graduate teaching assistants opportunities to train as a teacher in their school setting whilst being paid!
The Role
As a graduate teaching assistant, you will be supporting children on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis with their daily routine at school including activities, mealtimes, and outdoor play
The activities carried out at schools are often sensory led to enable children to be exposed to a multitude of everyday tasks they may initially struggle with or skills they would like to further enhance
The activities carried out are things like outdoor play, music, baking, crafts etc, in which you will be required to take part in the activity alongside the children to help them to engage in the task.
The children and young people you will be supporting have autism, learning disabilities and communication barriers - depending on the needs of each pupil, some will require support with personal care
Some children are also non-verbal which means you will have access to a range of picture cards used as a key to help the children to communicate what they want
You will work alongside various staff members and teachers to support each pupil with their personalised learning plans and cater to their individual needs.
Requirements
To be considered for the graduate teaching assistant position, you will need:
To be a recent graduate or just about to graduate from a UK university
Hold a 2:2 degree or above in any subject field
Willing to work full or part time between the hours of 8:30am - 3:30pm
Have a strong interest in working in education and exploring a future opportunity as a teacher
Be passionate about changing the lives of young people with autism and learning disabilitiesPay & Working Hours
Graduate teaching assistants are typically paid between £10.42 and £12.42 per hour
Income figures are intended as a guide only.
Full-time graduate teaching assistants usually work between 32 & 35 hours per week
Starting the school day at 8.30am and finishing at 3.30pm with a 30 minute lunch break
There are also part-time, casual and job share options available.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay
