Part of one of the country's largest SEN providers, this school is looking for an HLTA to join their team on a full time, permanent basis
The school supports 11-16 year olds with an Autism diagnosis
Many of the children have other complex needs and may present with challenging behaviours
The school has recently opened and offers state of the art facilities including science labs and food tech rooms along with sensory rooms and extensive grounds.
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant will support the Class Teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.
Key duties
Monitor pupils' conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene as necessary.
Promote pupils' cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development and spiritual well-being
Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist/ care professional.
Assist the Class Teacher's with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher
Know and understand the Class Teacher's curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.
To provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.
Support the day to day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a Class teacher.
Develop and implement individual plans for pupils [such as the educational elements in an EHCP], including attendance at, and contribution to, reviews if requested.
Contribute to the community life of the school by taking an active part in the preparation and celebration of both community and multicultural events
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working with SEN in an employed or voluntary setting
The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification, or demonstrate equivalent skill level is desirable.
GCSE pass in Maths and English [C / 4 or Functional Skills Level 2]
Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD
Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
Experience working within education is advantageous
