Technical & New Projects Manager

DescriptionMain Objectives
To manage & ensure the smooth and efficient running of all Engineering Department related matters
To ensure the on-going achievement of Engineering projects within designated deadlines and budgets.
To provide input to the New Products Program & meetings for future projects & products.
To ensure the supplier quality programme is maintained for all current products and new projects
To ensure that good technical advice is given to customers.
Key Tasks
To manage the overall day-to-day running of the engineering department, including engineering staff, various product projects, liaison with other departments, company's Far East engineer[s], technical issues, quality issues, up to date knowledge of relevant standards, and any other actions as may be needed.
To run the engineering aspects of New Product Introduction which may involve:-
Investigating possible new products
Identifying potential suppliers
Producing Product Specifications
Working with external resources on the design of products
Working with manufacturing external suppliers to ensure that products meet the quality and performance requirements
To ensure all Engineering projects [Phase Gate Process] are prioritised and carried out within given and agreed budgets.To ensure any test house evaluations are carried out within given deadlines and budgets
To ensure any internal product evaluations are carried out within given deadlines and budgets.
To ensure the smooth and efficient running of the Engineering Department, and maintain good relationships with and between partners and colleagues.
To maintain good relationships with all relevant suppliers.
To manage the China Based Engineer setting goals and tasks and on-going factory visits and assessments
To arrange / co-ordinate with any & all personnel for visits to China factories or exhibitions.
Ensure all product information is kept up to date.
To manage the Technical Services Team to ensure they provide highest quality advice and support for customers and installers and to assess product returns and possible improvements
To provide feedback to Quality, Engineering and Operations Departments on technical and quality issues.
To work with the Quality and Operations Departments to overcome any Quality and Technical issues which may arise on products.
To provide a technical service to the Sales Team & Marketing Dept's by providing advice on products, usage of products, technical manuals and supporting presentations as may be required.
To maintain and update the knowledge within the appropriate Standards, Directives and technical developments.
Requirements
Education- Degree or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering subject with an electronic or electrical bias.
Experience
a] Preferred minimum three years of managing an Engineering team to meet cost and time targets.
b] Experience of designing volume electro-technical products.
c] Experience of similar products such as electrical accessories and lighting.
d] Knowledge of and experience of designing to meet relevant Standards and Directives
e] An appreciation of mechanical design, plastics etc.
f] Detailed knowledge of using software products such as Microsoft Office and some hands on understanding of CAD would be an advantage.
g] Familiarity with working with remote suppliers and sub-contractors particularly in the Far East
Personal skills

d] Able to work to tight timescales on multiple projects.
e] Flexibility in attitude.
f] Able to learn new areas of expertise outside their previous expertise
