Business Development Executive

DescriptionAs a Business Development Executive, you will have seen the elephant in the room...
An advert with a competitive salary!
Why?
Because it genuinely is competitive, it all depends on who you are, as a Business Development Executive if you have a bit of entrepreneurial flair and can bring fresh ideas to the table [and no I'm not talking about your 'little black book', we aren't interested in that] we are interested in you, your hunter instinct, your creativity, your ability to build longstanding relationships and get through doors no one else can get through!
Sales is in your blood, you are always looking for an opportunity even when you are in the pub with your mates, you are the person that asks why?
Who are the company you will be joining?
They operate within the engineering industry and sell a portfolio of products to these sectors to name a few:
Automotive
Hydraulics
Mechanical/civil engineering and construction
Hydraulics
Process and power
[if you are reading these and thinking 'that's my stomping ground!' great! If not, it's certainly not a deal breaker].
Based in the West Midlands, you are working in a business-to-business sales role as a Business Development Executive where you are selling a product to an end user, able to meet with customers and talk knowledgeably about your product [we all know product can be trained, sales attitude can't!].
The company, approaching their 100th year of trading, are family owned but have the stability of being part of a wider group which means much more support for you and your career.
The building you will be based in [when you work from the office 1 day a week] really does have the wow factor; it's a million miles away from the offices I visited them in over 10 years ago where I really did have to scrape my feet on the way out!
Your new boss's boss progressed within the business in the very role you are going into and guess what?..
he's now the Managing Director, so who knows what seat you could find yourself in....Business Development Executive today, tomorrow....??
Succession planning is massively on the agenda here, this could be the pathway to much bigger things!
Everyone says that they nurture talent, but here they really do, you will be given free rein to develop your territory and, if you come across any training you need, a course you fancy doing feel would expand your skills further or you want to work towards that promotion, it's encouraged here!
You will be out and about doing what you do best, nurturing existing customer relationships and hunting for new ones:
Who are your customers?
Do you have all of their business, or are you assuming you do?
Are there any other products or services you could cross sell?
Who are your customer's competitors?
When you are visiting a customer who is on the same industrial estate that you could be dealing with?
Do you stay connected with your customer's and competitor's social media activity?
Your territory is vast so you will need to plan your own diary and keep on top of where you are going and who you are seeing.
You really come into your own in front of your customers, recognising those pain points, being alert to things that typical salespeople just overlook, every potential deal for you is like a mini project, much more than a quick chat and submitting a quote.
You are creative in your approach, here you have the opportunity to leverage the group buying power to your advantage meaning because you are working for the Market leader [yes I know every recruiter says that, but these guys genuinely are] you won't be losing a deal due to cost and you know that the promise of providing your customer with high spec products to the correct quality standards isn't just a pipe dream!
There are 5 others in your team including your new boss who has been with the business for over 13 years and, although you don't meet in person that often, there are regular catch up calls for you to all share your knowledge and ideas.
As I've mentioned above, the salary on offer is competitive as is the overall package:
Up to 12% commission
Company car [they support electric/hybrid as it contributes to their environmental and sustainability mission]
Laptop
Phone
4% employer pension contribution
Healthcare plan
