Senior AV Technician

DescriptionPurpose of the role
The role is based in the University of Cambridge Audio Visual [AV] Services Team, which is a unit within the Workplace Services department of the University's Estates Division
The University is critically dependent upon the effective delivery of AV services in order to fulfil its teaching and academic mission.
The role holder is responsible for the operation of AV equipment for high profile events and conferences, within the University's centrally managed lecture theatres
With responsibility for the maintenance schedule, preventative maintenance, and the ability to efficiently diagnose and resolve technical faults to minimise disruption to university teaching and operations.
Areas of responsibility
Customer Service Support
Act as technical support point of contact for teaching spaces, receive and handle requests for support from facilities support staff or teaching staff.
Respond to a broad range of service requests for support by providing information to fulfil requests or enable resolution.
Provide second line investigation and diagnosis and promptly escalate unresolved issues as appropriate.
Provide initial and continuing AV orientation training for teaching space users and facilities staff as 1-to-1 or small group sessions.
Coordinate and provide audio visual support to organised events, helping in their planning and operation.
Configure and operate AV and IT equipment in support of events services including, but not limited to: AV presentation switchers, PC's, Laptops, video cameras, streaming encoders, audio and video mixers, theatrical lighting desks, microphones, and PA systems.
Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve problems in AV systems.
Determine problem fixes and remedies
Other areas of responsibility to include:
Incident Management - Follow agreed procedures, identify, register, and categorize incidents.
System Maintenance - Maintain a wide range of AV equipment including, but not limited to: AV presentation switchers, control processors, matrix switchers, data projectors, visualizers, display screens, video cameras, audio and video mixers, theatrical lighting, microphones, and PA systems.
Installation - Install AV equipment in teaching spaces, working accurately from schematics, site plans and cable schedules
Digital Media Service & Equipment Hire - Conduct site surveys and meet with clients to discuss their needs
Plan and coordinate the production/hire to achieve the desired outcome.
Continuous Improvement - Use specialist AV knowledge to improve the design and delivery of services, focusing on efficiency, continuity, and the user experience.
Planning and Organising - Service requests for AV support to be prioritised accordingly to reduce disruption to university operations.
Management & Project Management - Jointly with the other Senior AV Technician, deputising for the AV Manager when they are absent.

Person Specification
Essential
Relevant degree subject, equivalent vocational qualifications, or equivalent work experience in a comparable environment.
Hold or be working towards recognised AV industry qualifications or accreditations [e.g., CTS, Crestron, Extron].
Recent experience of delivering a customer focused audio-visual service.
Evidence of working at a tactical or operational level to deliver a technical solution.
Able to demonstrate an extensive working knowledge of current and emerging AV/IT technologies.
Experience supporting or maintaining networked AV infrastructure.
Fundamental understanding of networking technologies in an AV system context
Desirable
ITIL Foundation Certificate in I.T Service Management
Crestron programming training or qualifications.
Membership of professional AV bodies or organisations [e.g., Avixa, SCHOMS, LTSMG].
Experience of programming, configuring, or supporting AV control panels [e.g., Creston, Extron]
Event or conference AV support experience.
Knowledge or experience of filming, editing, post[1]production techniques, online video, and live streaming.
Working knowledge of Zoom and Teams.
Use of creative software packages, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut, AutoCAD, or Visio.
Fault finding ability on a wide range of AV and IT equipment
Hours: Monday - Friday 36.5 hours per week.
