If you’re a Crime Prevention professional and looking to help protect the West Midlands Community further, look no further – this role is key in the force’s delivery of Designing Out Crime and Crime Reduction.
This opportunity to be a Design Out Crime Officer [part-time] will require liaising with architects, designers and developers in addition to providing ongoing specialist advice on the security of new buildings and the refurbishment of existing buildings - enabling designs to be as safe and secure as reasonably possible.
About the role
In your day to day you will be promoting an awareness of the principles of crime prevention through design to both build awareness of, and ensure the adoption of, recommended security standards and specifications.
The DOCO will operate at the right hand of the Design Out Crime Manager to provide specialist security advice, develop crime prevention initiatives in support of the force policing priorities and support both external organisations and colleagues to deliver those initiatives.
As the Design Out Crime Officer, you can expect to:
* Provide specialist security advice and guidance to the built environment at every stage of the design process to minimise the potential for crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour at the earliest stage.
* Promote creating safe and sustainable communities, encouraging pre-application discussion between planners and DOCOs, involving architects, developers and key stakeholders [including but not limited to Counter Terrorism Security Advisors, Neighbourhood Policing Teams]
* Support Neighbourhood Policing Units with their partnership working, problem solving and crime prevention interventions, acting as tactical advisors in Crime Prevention
* To be aware of national and local planning policies
* Responding on behalf of WMP to planning matters as various stages, from pre-application to full planning submissions
* Provide training in basic crime prevention and reduction techniques to LPA personnel and specialist departments
Hours/Location
This is a part time hybrid role for 18.5 hours per week [working days flexible]
A published shift pattern will be worked between the hours of 8am and 6pm with core business days being Monday-Friday
There may be a requirement to occasionally work outside normal hours and or attend duty at short notice
Travel may be required both locally, regionally and on occasions nationally, this may include evenings & weekends as agreed with the DOCO Manager.
The successful candidate is also expected to annually undertake role specific CPD as set out by the PCPA, and attend a two-day training event [ATLAS].
Qualifications - External
About You:
* If not already held, requirement to undertake Police Crime Prevention Academy [PCPA] L4 and L5 courses
If qualified under College of Policing, then would need to undertake the PCPA Recognition of Prior Experience and Learning qualification
Criteria for eligibility applies.
* Requirement to hold a full UK driving license and an ability to travel throughout the West Midlands region if required.
* Possess a sound understanding of the current legislation, regulations and policy in respect of Planning and Building Design through either experience of qualifications
