Join a dynamic and expanding retail business as their HR Manager, where you will have the opportunity to lead a team of HR advisors and take charge of the HR function across the business
As a pivotal role during a time of continued growth and success, you will also support and enhance operational functions within the Warehouse and fulfilment centre at the Head Office in Birmingham.
What you will be doing:
Employee Relations:
Provide prompt and professional HR advice and guidance to employees and managers.
Advise on disciplinary and appeals processes and chair hearings when necessary.
Foster positive and professional conflict resolution through mediation.
Collaborate and liaise with other department managers.
Recruitment and Employee Lifecycle:
Efficiently manage the onboarding and offboarding processes for both permanent and agency workers, including job descriptions, advertising, interviewing, and inductions.
Collaborate with recruitment agencies.
Maintain accurate agency timesheets and control the agency budget.
Implement effective labor cost controls across all business areas.
Appraisals and development:
Lead and guide the appraisal and review processes across the business.
Take ownership of business policies, ensuring updates and effective communication.
Coach employees on company policy compliance.
Managing processes/polices and Administration:
Manage HR policies company-wide, ensuring compliance and alignment with best practices.
Update employee handbooks in line with business changes and legislation.
Oversee all administrative tasks, including onboarding, offboarding, and maintenance of HR systems and records.
Identify and proactively address relevant HR and operational practices.
Operations:
Work closely with the payroll team on payment, absence, and pay changes.
Prepare, communicate, and implement national wage and other legislation requirements, such as gender pay gap data.
Drive the implementation of new operational and compliance improvements.
Contribute proactively to health and safety support and guidance, actively participating in action planning.
Maintain operational involvement in the Warehouse and fulfilment centre to uphold standards, productivity, and continuous improvement.
Control costs related to relevant elements of the business.
Manage KPIs and develop action plans for improvement.
Support the development, implementation, and review of procedures, solutions, and processes to drive ongoing improvements.
Participate in ad-hoc project work as requested by the Head of HR or Directors.
What we are looking for:
Proven experience as an HR Manager in a private company, preferably within the retail sector.
Strong knowledge of employment law, policies, and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior management.
Demonstrated commercial and business acumen.
Team player who can deliver a robust HR function and operational support in a fast-paced environment.
Pragmatic problem solver with resilience in the face of challenges.
Exhibits sound judgement, integrity, and credibility to act as a trusted advisor to senior management and Directors.
Exceptional attention to detail and excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Excel.
Possesses a driving license for potential travel to store locations if required.
